PhoneFlotilla
A downloadable game
The Game:
PhoneFlotilla is a two-player, battleship-themed game that uses a telephone as the primary controller. Players are isolated in separate cabins, enhancing immersion and tension.
Players receive a call from the captain with mission details and place their ships on a grid. Using the telephone, they input commands to move ('#XY'), attack ('*XY'), or use sonar or dialing '0000' to repeat the last message. Each action reproduces captain's voice messages to provide updates and feedback on the game's progress.
The telephone-based control system adds a unique, nostalgic, and immersive layer to the game. The physical interaction and the competitive pressure of rapid command input create a tense and engaging atmosphere. This innovative setup offers a fresh and memorable gameplay experience.
Context:
In our Seminars II class at Universidade Lusófona, we were challenged to create an Alternative Controller game. The objective was to design a game that utilizes a telephone as the primary control device and incorporates a physical gameplay area to enhance player immersion. Our project, PhoneFlotilla, aims to blend unique physical interactions with a strategic, battleship-themed gameplay experience, creating an engaging way for players to interact with the game.
